Emergency Weather Shelter

St. Andrew’s hosts an overnight Emergency Weather Response (EWR) shelter in our Friendship and Rainbow Rooms. This community service is run by the Lookout Housing + Health Society

Lookout defines extreme weather events as those called by the City and EWR staff, but that include nights when: temperatures are at or below zero Celsius; there’s significant snow accumulation; there’s freezing rain; there’s a wind chill that reduces the temperature to feeling like zero Celsius; or when there’s a severe wind warning.

To find out if the Emergency Weather Shelter is open, please call the Lookout Society at 604-255-0340.

We provide beds, food (including homemade soup!), and items like warm clothing to those who are unhoused on the North Shore during extreme weather events. We collect new men’s underwear (M/L) and $10 Tim Hortons gift cards to give to our shelter guests. There’s a box for these donations in the Sanctuary.

The EWR usually runs from mid-October through April.
